Plastic-Lined Steel
Harrington carries a complete line of plastic-lined steel products
Plastic-lined steel products combine the strength of steel with the corrosion resistance of plastics, offering the best of both worlds, being abrasion and wear-resistant while maintaining non-stick and high-purity characteristics.
Lined Steel
Piping Products
Harrington has partnered with DuFlon, the world’s leading manufacturer of Teflon (PTFE), Polypropylene (PP), and Polyvinylidene Flouride (PVDF) in the fabrication of our finished lined steel product DufLine. We manufacture our lined steel in Houston, Texas and Gonzales, Louisiana. All products are made in compliance with ASTM F 1545, the standard specification for Plastic-Lined Ferrous Metal Piping.
Harrington offers plastic-lined steel piping systems that provide a wide range of advantages. One of the key benefits is that plastic-lined steel systems provide excellent chemical resistance to a variety of corrosive chemicals, making them ideal for use in demanding industrial applications. The plastic lining creates a barrier between the process fluid and the metal piping, reducing the risk of corrosion and extending the lifespan of the system. This makes plastic-lined steel systems an excellent choice for applications in the chemical processing, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor industries, among others.
Lined-pipe systems can be used to transport a wide range of fluids, including acids, bases, solvents, and other corrosive chemicals, at high temperatures and pressures. Additionally, they can be customized to meet the specific needs of each application, with a variety of sizes, materials, and configurations available. This allows for a high degree of flexibility in system design, making plastic-lined steel an excellent choice for complex applications where standard pipes may not be sufficient. Harrington’s plastic-lined steel piping systems offer a durable, cost-effective, and versatile solution for a wide range of industrial applications.
The Harrington Difference
Providing over 60 years of exceptional service

The main key advantage of Harrington’s plastic-lined steel systems is versatility. Lined pipes and fittings are used in most Petrochemical, Chemical, Pulp and Paper Industry applications where hazardous acids and solvents are used in processing. Highly acidic and corrosive chemicals have a tendency to corrode and eat away non-lined steel piping. Lined piping systems are also used in the Food and Pharmaceutical Industry where the challenge is to maintain the highest levels of cleanability and durability.
Combining the strength of steel with the corrosion resistance of plastics, these plastic-lined steel products provide the best of both worlds. Due to the inertness of PTFE to almost all chemicals and solvents, it acts as an effective barrier between the chemical and steel, not only protecting the conveying system but also safeguarding the working environment. Corrosion engineers realize the long-term benefits associated with using high-performance fluoropolymers to prevent corrosion in process piping systems. Lined systems are abrasion and wear-resistant while maintaining non-stick and high purity characteristics.
A wide variety of chemicals can be used through a lined system, making it more versatile and economical for the long term. Due to the absence of corrosion, the life of the pipeline systems increases. PTFE lining safeguards and enhances better working conditions, reduces repair time, and minimizes maintenance costs. Harrington carries a full line of plastic-lined steel products available from 1″ to 12″ with PTFE, PP, PVDF or PFA liners and casing pipe of cast steel, stainless steel, or ductile iron.
Key Advantages of Plastic-Lined Steel
Chemical/Corrosion Resistance: The plastic lining provides excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals, making it ideal for use in corrosive environments.
Cost-Effective: Compared to solid plastic materials, plastic-lined steel is often more cost-effective as it combines the strength and durability of steel with the chemical resistance of plastic.
High-Temperature Resistance: Plastic-lined steel can withstand high temperatures, making it suitable for use in high-temperature applications.
Mechanical Strength: The steel outer shell provides mechanical strength, ensuring that the pipe or fitting can withstand high pressure and physical stress.
Strength, Durability, and Longevity: Steel provides strength and durability, while the plastic liner provides protection against corrosion and harsh chemicals. Plastic-lined steel has a long lifespan, even in corrosive environments.
- Lower Maintenance Costs: Because plastic-lined steel is resistant to corrosion and chemical attack, it requires less maintenance than other materials, resulting in lower maintenance costs over time.
Harrington’s standard piping can be made up to 20’ lengths for 1-8” diameter pipe, and 10’ sections for 10-12” diameter pipe. The advantages of lined steel are increased lifespan along with enhanced rust protection, saving time and money from less downtime for maintenance and repairs, and a wide variety of chemicals that can be used through a Teflon lined system making it more flexible and economical. Some common applications are Bio-Pharm, Marine, Chemical Processing, Metal Finishing, Mining, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Power Plants, Refining, Wastewater, and Steel Pickling Plants.
